Tessa Dalton: From Farm Fiddle to Music City Maestro
Tessa Dalton’s musical journey began on her small family farm in eastern Idaho, where she grew up. The melody of her early years was shaped by her experiences playing fiddle, guitar, and singing alongside her sisters and cousins as the entertainment at their family-owned New Sweden Farms Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch.
Dalton’s love for music blossomed when she started playing the violin at the age of 11. However, she soon found her true calling in old-time fiddle music. Her passion drove her to travel thousands of miles to compete in and win various fiddle championships across Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah. Her accolades include being crowned the 2023 Rocky Mountain Regional Fiddle Champion and securing 2nd place in the Young Adult division at the 2023 National Old Time Fiddle Contest in Weiser, Idaho.
Before making her way to Nashville, Dalton excelled academically and in leadership roles. She graduated as Valedictorian and student body president of her small high school and was elected Governor of Idaho Girls State. Her academic journey continues as she pursues a degree in commercial music at Belmont University.
In Nashville, Dalton has emerged as a promising studio musician. She has contributed to dozens of singles and EPs across various genres and has performed live with artists at Americana Fest, Whiskey Fest, and numerous venues throughout Music City. While her heart lies in country, bluegrass, and Americana music, Dalton’s versatility allows her to comfortably perform rock, pop, and classical music. Additionally, she finds personal expression through her alt-pop/rock originals.
Dalton’s time at Belmont University has been marked by growth and achievement. Under the guidance of esteemed mentors such as Dr. Ryan Joseph, Professor Justin Branum, Dr. Elizabeth Small, and Dr. Ela Tokarska, she has honed her craft. Dalton performs with the Belmont Symphony, the Southbound country music ensemble, the Phoenix Pop Rock ensemble, and the World Fiddle Ensemble, where she has been a featured soloist. Her talent has also shone in the award-winning Christmas at Belmont and as part of the victorious band at the Belmont Christian Showcase.
